Upper Michigan Christian Home Educators (UMCHE) was begun in 1984 for, and by, home schoolers in the central area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. With group leadership by Jim and Lonny Janofski, Jim and Ruth Hill, and other area families, and a mailing list of approximately 200 families, this Christian-oriented group acts as a support and resource-coordination vehicle for local home educators.

The group is associated with the Michigan statewide home schooling organization, Information Network for Christian Homes (INCH).

In the timeless words of the Deuteronomy 6 admonition to parents of the need to diligently teach their children the words and ways of the Lord: "Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
